About
Sara Frisby was born in Montréal and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. She studied at the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto before working in fashion in Toronto, New York and London. In 2008, she moved to Brasil and discovered photography as a way of life. In 2015, she graduated from the Photojournalism and Documentary Program at the International Centre of Photography in New York, where she focussed on commercial fishing in Montauk for her final project Montauk, End of the World. She now lives by the sea in Paraty, a small colonial town south of Rio de Janeiro. She considers her camera a fearless friend and willingly follows on explorations to new places, where she meets new people and experiences new ways of life. She is fascinated by community, by shared experience, and by what it is that animates us. She is currently working on a long term project about Mangueira, the samba school in Rio, documenting the behind-the-scenes stories of Carnaval.
